How is Deforestation Affecting the Environment?

Image
Deforestation is a major problem, as it impacts the environment, animals, plants, and climate change. We need to take action to prevent deforestation from wiping out many species and polluting the air with more greenhouse gas emissions. Forests are important so important to the planet because they provide habitats for many animals, plants, and indigenous people that rely on them for food and shelter. Forests are very important in means of climate change because trees sequester carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. Therefore when they are cut down, they release these gases back into the atmosphere, and as we continue to cut down trees the less they can store these gases, continuing to damage the ozone layer and allow for warmer temperatures (Holland). With the rising temperatures and dryness of the forests that have been impacted by deforestation of the forests can cause wildfires, which are damaging more trees (Holland). Forests also can prevent erosion and purify water ...

How does Traveling Affect the Environment?

Image
Traveling in a vehicle is a great impact of pollution and contributes to climate change. Every time you get into your vehicle, emissions continue to destroy the environment. Alongside traveling in means of tourism by taking a boat or airplane all contribute to these emissions and pollution , which are harmful to the environment. This week I read a news article that is about how New Hampshire is going to be putting in electric vehicle charging stations around major roadways in NH. According to the article, only two percent  of vehicle sales last year were electric vehicle, however by putting in these charging stations may promote more people to convert to electric vehicles (Ropeik). New Hampshire will be spending about two million dollars to construct these charging stations will be begin to construct these areas within the next eighteen months (Ropeik). Converting to electric vehicles is more eco friendly because they reduce the amount of emissions in the environment. Acc...

Will Coral Reefs Survive Climate Change? As climate change warms the ocean stresses corals and causes bleaching events and the algae that gives them their color leaves due to stress. It's very sad that because of climate change causing the ocean temperatures to increase that it affects these animals drastically. As these reefs die they also impact the marine life that live in these environments. Kristen Marhaver, a marine biologist that studies coral reefs mentioned in a 2017 Ted Talk that as the temperature of the ocean increases corals are discharging the algae that gives them color and nutrients, the tissue that's left is bleached and clear, and the corals usually starve and become overgrown by algae ("Why I Still..."). This is referred to as coral bleaching. Rising temperatures, chemicals, and pollution are all harming corals and marine life and changing how they live. Marhaver says that with climate change some corals will survive if properly protecte...
"The planet is emitting nine gigatons of carbon every year, and that amount increases annually, Jason Smerdon, a climate scientists for Columbia University's Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory, told ABC News (Jacobo)." It's very shocking how much carbon emissions we are emitting every year, and as we continue to keep adding to these emissions  the worse the condition of the environment becomes.  Its important that we are taking action to help reduce these emissions. According to this article by Julia Jacobo, New York is going to be carbon neutral before 2050, which means that the state will be balancing out for the carbon emissions they created ("Carbon Neutrality"). If more states and companies followed this idea of becoming carbon neutral and lowering their emissions it will help reduce these emissions and will help the environment. I hope that other states will follow this idea and hope to become carbon neutral. It would also be important if large compa...
